Work is continuing to draw up plans for the gallery, with a design hopefully finalised by August. We've also been at work in the sculpture garden, clearing nettles. There's still plenty, but we think there's more flowers and less nettles this year! If you'd like to help with the next clear up, please let us know.

Following the very sad loss of Frank, the Trustees have been working with his estate and family to ensure the long-term future of both the trail and the sculptures. This has inevitably slowed down our work, but we plan to have a design for the Gallery and have started the planning process early in the New Year.

In the meantime, may the Trustees wish all our Friends and supporters a Merry Christmas, and all best wishes for 2010.

Last week, the trustees met the project manager who has been commissioned to see the Trust through the design and build of the Gallery. An architect is being brought in to provide design drawings for the planning application, and it is hoped that the planning process will be complete by the end of the year. With plenty of fund-raising planned for 2010, the trustees are still aiming to build the gallery by Summer 2011.

Yesterday saw our first Friends event, a Scuptor-led walk around the Trail at Feshiebridge. Although the weather looked threatening, it stayed dry until the end of the tour, and it was a satisified if cold group that then when back to Penny Weir's house for much needed tea and lunch!

We plan to produce a newsletter soon. A major story in it will be that we now have the funding in place to design, get planning permission and project manage the gallery build! Over the Summer trustees will be meeting Forestry Commission Scotland and the project management company to take the work forward. We'll keep you posted!

With the first phase of the gallery build about to start, we are turning our thoughts to fundraising. We will need to raise a proportion of the estimated £250,000 cost. If you would like to help us with this either financially, or as a fundraiser, please do contact the Secretary on 01479 831212.

Saturday May 23rd is the day to come down to the Trail to help tidy-up the Winter's work. Trustees and friends will be going with spades, clippers and everything else we need to give the trail and sculptures some Tender Loving Care. Friends, and those interested in joining the Friends group are very welcome. Please contact the Secretary Valerie Fairweather on 01479 831212 for more information. Tea, coffee and a piece will be provided!

Work on the Gallery is progressing, with design and preparatory tender work for the build due to commence in May. The Winter saw an opportunity for taking some great pictures of the sculptures under hard frost, and these can be found in the new Photo Gallery pages. If you have taken any pictures of, or around, the Trail, please do email them to us.

20 December 2008

The Trustees would like to wish all our supporters and Friends a Merry Christmas, and all the best for the New Year. 2009 will be a full and interesting year for the Trust, drawing up the design for the new Gallery, and sourcing funding. We welcome your support and contributions to the work.

15 October 2008

It has been a busy Summer at the Trail, with plenty of visitors. Frank has been making regular visits tidying up some of the nettles and letting the lupins through. The sculptures themselves now need some maintenance work, and the trustees will be getting on with some conservation work over the Winter.

It's important that the Trust now generates some funding to help protect the sculptures and maintain the Trail. We are launching the Friends group over the next few weeks. For a £10 individual donation, or £100 corporate donation you will receive a regular Friends newsletter, and   the chance to become more involved with the Trail and the work on it. You'll also be invited to events at the Trail with the Sculptor.

The Trustees are pleased to announce that the FBST is now a registered charity in Scotland. This now means we can start fund raising in ernest. Plans for the Gallery, which will be built at the Trail, are being drawn up. We'll keep you updated as things progress.

15 April 2008

The Frank Bruce Sculpture Trust is setting up a Friends group so that there will be a vehicle for those many guests at the Opening last Autumn who expressed a desire to become   more involved with the work of the Trust in preserving and interpreting Frank Bruce's inspiring sculptures.

There certainly is plenty to do at the moment and things are looking very positive on the Trust development side. We have organised a Spring Tidy Up at the Sculpture Trail. Maybe you, as a Friend, could be involved with such exploits in the future!   We are also moving closer to building a Gallery and Workshop in the woods to house Frank's collection of beautiful smaller sculpture. If you are interested in becoming a Friend or would like to find out a little more about it please contact John Thorne at cheersjohn(at)hotmail.com
